Dance second, Cheer third at NAIA Nationals

The St. Ambrose Cheer & Dance squads traveled to Ypsilanti, Mich., to compete in the 2022 NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance National Championships. 

SAU Cheer posted a 92.63 in the prelim round to put them ahead of the competition heading into the finals. It took a record-breaking performance to get past the Bees as Xavier (La.) posted a 94.32 final round score. Combined with their prelim score, Xavier (La.) had an overall total of 93.70 - the highest point total in championship history. St. Ambrose earned a 92.01 in the finals, giving them a 92.17 overall score, good enough for third. Indiana Wesleyan took runner-up honors with a 92.58 overall score. 

The dance competition also had a record-breaking performance as Morningside just edged out St. Ambrose for the title. SAU posted a 91.77 in prelims and followed it up with a 92.30 performance in the finals for a 92.17 overall total, a program best. Morningside used scores of 91.93 (prelims) and 92.43 (finals) to get a 92.31 overall score - the highest point total in the event's history - to take the crown. Midland came in third place with 84.03.
