SAU to face Roosevelt in CCAC Tournament opener

St. Ambrose will face Roosevelt in a first-round game of the CCAC Tournament at 4 p.m. Thursday at Duly Health and Care Field in Joliet, Ill.

The two teams were among four that tied for second place in the conference during the regular season with matching 19-13 league marks. Roosevelt (28-20) won the four-team tiebreaker to earn the No. 2 seed while St. Ambrose (25-20) ultimately dropped to the No. 5 seed.

The Bees and Lakers split their four-game series with each winning two on the opponent's home field. SAU earned wins of 13-4 and 16-10 in Crestwood, Ill., on Apr. 12, and a day later, Roosevelt responded with 4-3 and 6-3 victories in Clinton, Iowa.

The winner will face the winner of the Saint Xavier-Olivet Nazarene game Friday at 7 p.m. The loser will will take on the loser of the Trinity Christian-St. Francis matchup in an elimination game Friday at 1 p.m. The tournament will continue Saturday with the first championship game set for Monday at 7 p.m. A if-necessary game would be played Tuesday at 7 p.m.

USF earned the top seed in the double-elimination tournament by winning the regular season crown with a 23-9 CCAC record. 

The winner of the CCAC Tournament will earn the league's lone automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament.
