Strong pitching performances lead SAU sweep of Judson

Jacob Bosse and Justin Lane threw back-to-back complete games to help St. Ambrose sweep a doubleheader at Judson by scores of 14-1 and 7-0 Saturday. The Bees took three of four in the weekend set.

Brock Webber powered the SAU offense in the opener, hitting a three-run home run and a grand slam as part of the 13-hit attack.

An error allowed Jake Mucha to get the Bees on the board in the second. Garrett Latoz and Mucha hit solo homers in the third and fourth innings, respectively, to push the lead to 3-0. Noah McCreary and Joey Fitzgerald had run-scoring hits before Webber hit his three-run shot to right to up the margin to 8-0 in the fifth. Fitzgerald had a two-run single before Webber's grand slam capped a six-run sixth. Judson (9-35, 4-22 CCAC) got its run in the bottom of the seventh.

Mucha finished 4-for-4 while Webber, Fitzgerald and Bryce Vincent each had two hits.

Bosse went the distance, striking out 12 while allowing just four hits and the one earned run to pick up the win.

Lane followed by striking out eight in his complete-game, three-hit shutout.

Fitzgerald and McCreary each picked up three more hits while Webber and Chris McFarland had two apiece.

It was a Mucha double in the first that scored McCreary to get the scoring started. Zietara had a sacrifice fly in the second. Fitzgerland ripped an RBI double to center in the fourth. McCreary had a run-scoring single in the fifth and an RBI triple in the seventh before Brandon Matias plated the final run with a single in the seventh.

St. Ambrose (21-18, 15-11 CCAC) will host St. Francis (Ill.) Sunday at NelsonCorp Field in Clinton, Iowa.
