A day after scoring 29 runs to sweep a doubleheader at Roosevelt, St. Ambrose managed just six total runs in dropping a doubleheader to the Lakers by scores of 4-3 and 6-3 Saturday at NelsonCorp Field in Clinton, Iowa.

Roosevelt (20-17, 11-11 CCAC) got all four of its runs in the third inning of the first game. Tbe Bees out-hit the Lakers 8-7 but managed just three runs.

Brandon Matias had a two-out single in the third to score Jake Mucha to get SAU on the board. Bryce Vincent's short pop to right in the sixth inning was dropped allowing Adrian Zietara to score. With two outs, Dan Laughery tripled to right to bring in Joey Fitzgerald to trim the deficit to 4-3.

Mucha drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the seventh and Noah McCreary sacrificed him to second. But Mucha was stranded there.

McCreary and Laughery each had two of the Bees' eight hits.

Brad Niedzwiedz was charged with the loss despite striking out seven and allowing just two earned runs over six innings. Grant Baker worked a scoreless seventh.

Laughery picked up two more hits in the second game. Mucha also had two hits as again SAU out-hit Roosevelt 8-7.

But after Laughery's run-scoring single in the second put the Bees in front 1-0, the Lakers would score the next five runs.

Mucha had an RBI single in the sixth and Matias belted a solo home run in the seventh to close the gap to 5-3. Roosevelt added an insurance run in the eighth and held on to complete the sweep.

Jacob Bosse took the loss after allowing three earned runs over five innings. Danny Molony, Justin Lane and Alex Heckroth combined to toss the final four frames.

St. Ambrose (17-16, 11-9 CCAC) will host Olivet Nazarene in Clinton on Wednesday.
