2023-24 Athletes of the Week

Apr. 23

Jacob Bosse - baseball pitcher
Bosse went the distance, striking out 12 over seven innings in a 14-1 win over Judson. He allowed just four hits and had his shutout bid broken up in the seventh.

Lauren Hoesly - women's lacrosse offensive
Hoesly earned this honor for the second time this season. Hoesly scored three goals and collected two assists in the Heart Tournament Semifinal win vs. Culver-Stockton. She also picked up two ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Brandon Matias - baseball player
Matias batted .444 with an .852 slugging percentage to help SAU to a 5-3 week. He collected two doubles and three home runs while adding 11 RBIs and six runs socred over the eight games.

Jacob Stoetzel - men's golf
Stoetzel averaged a 74.5 over four rounds over a pair of tournaments. He was runner-up at the Duhawk Invitational after back-to-back rounds of 73. He then tied for 12th at the Verhille Invitational with rounds of 77 and 75.

Abby Taaffe - women's lacrosse defensive
Taaffe collected four ground balls and four caused turnovers in a Heart Tournament Seminfinal win vs. Culver-Stockton. In the Heart Tournament Final game, Taaffe, gathered two ground balls and one caused turnover.

Payton Woods - men's outdoor field
Woods hit the B standard with a throw of 177-10 in the hammer throw at the Augustana Meet of Champions. He finished fifth among 43 competitors.


 Apr. 16

Gabbi Butler - women's outdoor track
Butler set a school record in the 400-meter dash with the best time in the NAIA this season, 54.33 seconds, at the Jim Duncan Invitational. She then set a school and facility record with a time of 24.33 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the Mustang Open.

Emilee Erickson - softball pitcher
Erickson earned back-to-back complete-game wins. She struck out two in a 3-1 win over Olivet Nazarene and then struck out five in a 4-1 win over Saint Xavier. 

Annah Miller - women's outdoor field
Miller won her second straight weekly after setting a school record with a throw of 47-3.5 in the shot put at the Jim Duncan Invitational. She also hit the A standard in the discus at the Mustang Open with a mark of 146-11.


Apr. 9

Sergio Marchizza - baseball pitcher
Marchizza recorded his second shutout of the season in a 7-0 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph. In the seven-inning victory, the junior struck out eight batters against only one walk, while scattering three hits.

Annah Miller - women's outdoor field
Miller hit the A standard in both the shot put and discus. Her discus distance of 158-11 set a school record and is the second-best mark in the NAIA. She registered the ninth-best shot put distance in the country with a throw of 46-0.75.

Will Reemtsma - men's outdoor track
Reemtsma won the 400-meter hurdles in 50.22 seconds, currently the top time in the country. He also hit the B standard in winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.74 seconds and helped SAU win the mixed 4x400-meter relay in 3:41.35.

 


Apr. 2

Lauren Hoesly - women's lacrosse offensive
Hoesly scored five goals and added four assists in a 22-7 win at Mount Mercy. The scoring outburst made her the program's all-time career points leader.


Mar. 18

Anabelle Brown - women's lacrosse offensive
Brown scored 11 goals to go along with four assists over a pair of wins. She surpassed the 100-career point mark in her SAU career. Brown also gathered 14 draw controls.

Becca Haag - softball player
Haag batted .529 with nine hits in 17 at-bats over six games. She hit safely in five of the six contests, finishing with four runs scored, five doubles, one triple and six RBIs.

Sophie McPeek - women's lacrosse defensive
McPeek collected 12 ground balls and caused three turnovers over two victories. The Bees allowed just 13 goals combined in wins over Wis.-Stout and Missouri Valley.


Feb. 26

Lachlan Hodge - men's lacrosse defensive
Hodge posted a total of 16 saves over two games, including 12 in a 14-6 win over Columbia. He had four saves while allowing just one goal in 22 minutes in a 14-6 win at Missouri Baptist.

Sergio Marchizza - baseball pitcher
Marchizza did not allow an earned run over two appearances covering 9 2/3 innings. He earned the win in a 5-4 decision over No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan, striking out six while allowing just one hit over 4 2/3 innings of relief. 

Makaile Shaddix - men's lacrosse offensive
Shaddix scored three goals in a 14-6 win over Columbia and added four goals in another 14-6 win over Missouri Baptist.

Caitlyn Thole - women's basketball
Thole recorded a pair of double-doubles in SAU's final two games of the year. She totaled 21 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals in a season-ending win over Trinity Christian. She earlier had 18 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in a loss at Saint Xavier. 


Feb. 12

Annah Miller - women's indoor field
Miller won the shot put with another A standard distance of 46-10 at the SAU Tune Up.


Feb. 5

Gabbi Butler - women's indoor track
Butler won the 200-meter dash in 25.55 seconds to hit the B standard at the Walter Cramer Invite. She also finished second in the 60-meter dash (8.80 seconds) and helped the 4x400-meter relay team win in 4:06.93.

Jonah Wilson - men's indoor field
Wilson won the shot put at the Walter Cramer Invite with a toss of 54-0.5. The mark qualified as an A standard and is the sixth-best distance in the NAIA this season.


Jan. 29

Joshua Mottet - men's indoor field
Mottet won his second-straight weekly award after resetting his own school record in the pole vault. He hit the A standard with a jump of 15-9 to place second at the Fighting Bee Invitational.

Will Reemtsma - men's indoor track
Reemtsma broke two school records at the Fighting Bee Invitational. His time of 1:19.52 is the second-fastest time in the NAIA this season and set a new SAU record. He also set a new school record with his time of 8.28 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.


Jan. 22

Annah Miller - women's indoor field
Miller won the shot put with an A-standard throw of 47-1 and also claimed the weight throw with a toss of 48-6.75 at the Bumble Rumble.

Joshua Mottet - men's indoor field
Mottet broke his own school record in the pole vault. His throw of 15-7 was also good for first place at the Bumble Rumble.


Dec. 25

Abby Wolter - women's basketball
Wolter averaged 18.5 points on nearly 61-percent shooting, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks over two games. That included a 26-point, seven-rebound performance against No. 4 Clarke. 


Nov. 6

Mackenzie Grafton - women's volleyball attacker
Grafton had 17 kills against just one hitting error in 24 chances for a .667 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win at St. Francis. She also picked up eight digs and two aces.

Joe Namio - football special teams
Namio was perfect in SAU's 41-21 win over Judson. He kicked field goals of 42 and 39 yards and converted all five of his extra points.

Hannah Sondag - women's volleyball setter
Sondag had 30 assists and 11 digs to go along with a pair of blocks and a service ace in a three-set win at St. Francis.

Yemi Ward - football offensive
Ward caught 11 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-21 win over Judson. His first score made him the program's all-time career leader in touchdown receptions. Ward has caught 37 touchdown passes in his SAU career.


Oct. 30

Mackenzie Grafton - women's volleyball attacker
Grafton averaged 4.6 kills, 2.3 digs and 0.5 blocks per set over three wins. She had a match-best 24 kills and added 14 digs and three blocks in helping the Bees hand Judson its first CCAC loss of the season.

Hannah Sondag - women's volleyball setter
Sondag totaled 51 assists, 18 digs and three aces to help St. Ambrose defeat conference-leading Judson. She averaged 10.4 assists and 2.8 digs per set in leading the Bees to a 3-0 week.


Oct. 16

Adriane Latham - women's soccer defensive
Latham was part of a backline that limited Roosevelt to just two shots on goal in a 3-0 win at Trinity Christian and five shots on goal in a 1-0 win over Trinity Christian, a team receiving votes in the NAIA poll.


Oct. 9

Kaitlyn Brunson - women's soccer offensive
Brunson earned her second weekly honor after scoring her second hat trick of the season in an 11-0 win over Holy Cross. She also had an assist in the victory and in a previous 2-1 win over Indiana Northwest.

Kaitlyn Knoche - women's cross country
Knoche earned her second weekly honor after setting a collegiate PR with a time of 19:38 at the Bethel (Ind.) Invitational. She finished 21st in a field of 157 runners.

Hayden Newton - men's soccer offensive
Newton scored the game-winning goal with 10 seconds remaining in a 3-2 win over Holy Cross.


Sept. 25

Ian Naylor - Heart of America Esports (League of Legends)
Naylor played the Mid Lane position and roated around the map expertly to counter all of the plays Graceland attempted. He cleaned up in every team fight that occurred, showing his prowess on K'Sante. He finished with 17 KDA and 16k damage dealt.


Sept. 18

Kaitlyn Brunson - women's soccer offensive
Brunson scored two goals to help St. Ambrose to a 6-0 victory over Indiana South Bend. She has scored three goals on the year for the Bees.


Sept. 11

Kaitlyn Knoche - women's cross country
Knoche captured SAU's own Fighting Bee Invitational, besting 38 runners with a time of 19:45 in the 5K. She helped St. Ambrose win the four-team meet.


Aug. 28

Mackenzie Grafton - women's volleyball attacker
Grafton averaged 3.69 kills and 3.00 digs per set over four matches. She posted three double-doubles, including a 21-kill, 12-dig performance against No. 6 Park.

Meredith Siebers - women's volleyball defender
Siebers collected double-doubles in four matches last week. She averaged 13.0 kills, 13.25 digs and 0.94 blocks per set.

Hannah Sondag - women's volleyball setter
Sondag averaged 9.06 assists per set for St. Ambrose. She totaled at least 39 assists in three of the four matches while also averaging 2.5 digs per set.
