Bees move to 5-1 with sweep of Scots

St. Ambrose continued its strong play in the fall, defeating Monmouth 7-0 at North Scott High School Tuesday afternoon.

Five of the Bees' six singles wins came in straight sets as the team moved to 5-1.

Miguel Sampaio had little problem dispatching his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Esteban Rocha dropped just a game in his 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5, and Jaime Febres lost two games in his 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4.

Sebastian Arevalo Piraquive was tested in the second set in his 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1. Gianfranco Garcia outlasted his opponent 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2.

The best match of the day came at No. 6 singles, where Marcus Lang earned a 6-0, 5-7, 10-8 win in a third-set super-tiebreaker.

Two of the three doubles matches ended in 6-1 St. Ambrose wins as the top team of Arevalo Piraquive and Gabriel Guimaray and the No. 2 team of Sampaio and Rocha won by identical margins. The No. 3 team of Lang and Cade Timmons won 7-5.

The Bees will host Grand View Friday.
