SAU Dance Team continues roll with wins at Fighting Bee Classic

Hosting its first official in-season NAIA competition in four years, St. Ambrose earned a pair of first-place finishes at its own Fighting Bee Classic in Lee Lohman Arena Sunday.

With four teams topping eight points, it was SAU's 87.25 that was the top mark in the first round. Viterbo was second with an 85.00, Mount Mercy took third with an 81.45 and William Penn was fourth with an 80.50.

The SAU White Team was fifth with a score of 79.54. St. Francis (78.37) and Ave Maria (76.54) also competed.

The Bees upped their score to a 90.95 to easily win the second round. In a packed field, Viterbo was second with an 86.66, Mount Mercy third with an 83.54, William Penn fourth with an 82.04, SAU White Squad fifth with an 80.45, St. Francis sixth with an 80.29, and Ave Maria seventh with a 77.50.

SAU has won five of its six NAIA competitions this season.

Competing for St. Ambrose were Maddy Barnes, Lilly Bonnet, Shea Denahy, Annika Foit, Morgan Ford, Sara Gundacker, Torrin Heritage, Hadley IrwinKarsyn Kuffler, Karli Langley, Brooklyn McBride, Evie Miller,  Sydnie Offermann, Emma Schoonover, Maggie Schreiber and Kyla Shaw. Grace Harms and Madelyn Hohe were the alternates.

Anna Beetz, Grace Berman, Kelsey Gibbs, Lilly Loewenberg, Anna Rickertsen and Chloe Sulzner competed for the SAU White Squad.

SAU will now turn its attention to the postseason. The Bees will compete in the AMC Championships in Columbia, Mo., on Friday, looking for a bid to the NAIA Championships, which begin Mar. 27 in Topeka, Kan.
