SAU Cheer Team earns first- and second-place finish at Fighting Bee Classic

Competing at home for the first time in four years, the SAU Cheer Team earned a first- and second-place finish at its own Fighting Bee Classic Sunday in Lee Lohman Arena.

In the first round, St. Ambrose finished second behind Dickinson State (96.07). SAU earned a score of 91.40. William Penn (80.85), Grand View (79.58), Culver-Stockton (73.45) and Mount Mercy (69.53) rounded out the field.

But in the second round, SAU posted the highest score of the day, earning a 96.57. That was enough to defeat Dickinson State, who received a score of 95.02. William Penn (86.95), Culver-Stockton (81.07), Grand View (80.95) and Mount Mercy (76.67) also performed.

Competing for St. Ambrose were Teylar Chatman, Ryan Czech, JP Elder, Chloe Fulcher, Graysen Gerlinger, Amira Glenn, Mikal Honeycutt, Sydnee HorstmanAlanna Lang, Jesse Lopez, Taye OwtenDonovan Peck, Reese Puleo, Ryan RussoAbi Grace Sayavongsa, Haley Scholbrock, Savannah SchumacherJaylen Taylor, Brady Teel and RJ Woods. Sydney Hughes and Ethan Trevino were the alternates.

SAU will now turn its attention to the postseason. The Bees will compete in the AMC Championships in Columbia, Mo., on Friday, looking for a bid to the NAIA Championships, which begin Mar. 27 in Topeka, Kan.
