Grady, Pieroni, and White compete on Day 1; Reemtsma brothers qualify for finals in 400m hurdles

2021 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Program

Gulf Shores, Ala. - Five Bees competed on Day 1 of the 2021 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Nationals in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Megan Grady, Michaela Pieroni, Jack Reemtsma, Will Reemtsma and Jacob White each battled at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium on Wednesday.

White, who earned a spot at Nationals at the Fighting Bee Last Chance Qualifier, was the first SAU athlete to compete on the day, competing in the hammer throw. His first attempt garnered a 44.60 mark, which was followed up with a throw of 46.97. White's third attempt resulted in a fault. Jacob Cornelio of Concordia (Neb.) took the event with a throw of 66.76. 

Both Will and Jack Reemtsma won their heats in the 400-meter hurdles. Will qualified in fourth with a time of 52.17 - a new school record. Jack qualified one spot behind his brother with a time of 52.62. Both will vie for a national title in the event final on Friday. 

Grady and Pieroni raced under the lights in the 10,000-meter finals. Pieroni earned a twelfth place finish with a time of 38:28.03. Grady finished with a time of 40:13.72, good enough for 21st. Milligan's Emily Kearney won the event with a meet-record time of 34:07.91.
