St. Ambrose races at Indian Hills
On Saturday, the Bees raced at Indian Hills in Ottumwa, Iowa, and did not disappoint. The women raced a 5k while the men continued racing the 8k. Despite the temperatures getting cooler, this afternoon race tested both the men and women but nevertheless, the Bees persevered through with many personal records (PRs) and even a team record.
On the women's side, nine ladies finished with PRs. The women Bees placed first as a team and Kaitlyn Knoche placed first in the race with an 18:30. Finishing in the top five of the race included Adeline Smith with an 18:43 and shortly after came Allison Hein (18:48). More PRs came from Alexa Minard (18:52), Maurina Fahrenkrug (19:30), Lauren Johnson (19:38), and Carlie Woolm (20:17). These top seven ladies also broke the school record of the team total time in the 5k with a total time of 2:14:21, breaking the previous mark by 88 seconds. This averages to about a 19:11 5k throughout the top seven individuals.
Other individuals that broke their personal record included Eileen Elenteny (23:39), Emma Carter (23:54), and Gaby Gonzalez (27:33). Even without PRs, Loryn Heil (24:06) and Alexis Havercamp (21:17) had great tenacity from gun to tape during the race.
Guys that finished with over a minute PR included Anthony Conard (29:11) and Jack Degner (29:14), while Benett Boatright ran over a 2.5 minute PR with (29:43). Other individuals who got PRs included Mason Schaack (30:18 - a 22-second PR) and Samuel Beamon (30:54 - also with a 22-second PR). Will Dowda (28:48) and Shyam Devasthali (30:25) raced as well.
With many PRs, the women getting first as a team and breaking the school record in the 5k, great things are bound to happen with two meets to go in the season. Next stop is The Blazing Tiger Classic at Mahoney State Park in Nebraska on Oct. 25, where the men will race an 8k and the women will face a 6k.
