Men break team time record at Blazing Tiger NAIA Classic

After coming up just four seconds short of a school record, the St. Ambrose men hit the mark Saturday. The Bees combined for a team time of 131:05 to smash the previous 8K school record of 131:58 set at the 1999 Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships.

Luke Benes was the top Bee. He was 44th overall with a time of 25:40. Benes was one of four Bees to finish inside the top 100 in the race featuring 23 teams.

Chris Miserendino was 59th overall in 25:59. Will Dowda finished in 26:04 to place 63rd and Ross Willerth's time of 26:36 was good for 93rd place.

Ian Eller finished in 26:45, Noah Maske crossed in 26:58 and Trae Corby crossed the line in 27:08 to help the Bees finish 11th as a team.

Nathan Boleyn (27:39), Bryan Flentge (28:25), Brennon Munch (29:04), Tommy Ashby (29:08), Kevin Chaney (29:42) and Donnie Ingram (32:38) also competed.

Kaitlyn Knoche again led the way for the SAU women. The freshman finished inside the top 50, placing 49th in the 6K race with a time of 23:15.

Adeline Smith broke 25 minutes, crossing the line in 24:43. The next five Bees all finished within a minute of each other. Allison Hein led the way finishing in 26:11. Rylee McCrery had a time of 26:16, Carlie Woolm 26:34, Merin Crowder 26:38 and Rileigh Fortune 27:07.

Kenzie Kaperka (28:20), Jayne Eilderts (29:00), Eileen Elenteny (32:49) and Loryn Heil (34:15) also raced for St. Ambrose.

SAU finished 19th as a team.

The Bees are off a week before competing in the CCAC Championships at Sunset Hills Park in Valparaiso, Ind., on Nov. 4.
