Bees drop season finale to Braves

St. Ambrose saw its 2019 season come to an end with a 10-7 loss to Ottawa (Kan.) Saturday afternoon at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex.

After Danny Kinnerk found Myles Leyden for a goal 10 minutes into the game to give the Bees a 1-0 lead, SAU surrendered a pair of Ottawa goals over the final 1:37 of the opening quarter. And the Bees trailed the majority of the way from there.

Goals from Kinnerk, with Thomas Parker getting the assist, and Leyden tied the game at 3-3 in the early stages of the second period before the Braves scored three in a row to build a 6-3 lead. Parker hit Kinnerk for a goal in the final minute of the second to trim the deficit to 6-4 at the half.

Trailing 7-4, St. Ambrose used goals from Elijah Gash and Thomas Kelly to get back within a goal late in the third quarter. But again Ottawa answered, scoring late in the third before netting the first two goals of the fourth to restore a 10-6 advantage. Parker's goal in the final four minutes finished the scoring.

Adam Kasper kept the Bees close by making 15 saves in goal.

SAU finished the year 6-9 overall and 1-5 in the KCAC.
