NAIA named six Bees as Scholar Athletes

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named six Bees between men's and women's tennis to the Scholar Athlete list announced on Monday afternoon. From SAU, the Bees were led by junior Audrey Pender, senior Gabrielle Baffes, sophomore Kate Jones, and junior Paige Bily. On the men's side, two athletes were named as NAIA Scholar athletes. Representing SAU is junior Brian Lelm and senior Connor Leibforth.

SAU listed a pair of CCAC Men's Tennis All-Academic honorees in Connor Leibforth and Brian Lelm. Leibforth is a senior Finance and Economics major. Lelm is a junior Exercise Science major. The Bees captured 11 wins this season to improve from the prior year having earned 10 wins. Leibforth is a three-time recipient while Lelm is a two-time recipient.

St. Ambrose University led the list of women’s tennis All-Academic selections with six Fighting Bees named on Monday afternoon. SAU collected six of the 16 spots. The six named to the 2024 team were Gabrielle Baffes (Marketing), Paige Bily (Human Performance), Kate Jones (Exercise Science), Megan McConnaughay (Elementary Education), Sophie Parr (Forensic Science and Criminal Justice), and Audrey Pender (Nursing).

After helping St. Ambrose finish second in the conference, Noah McCreary, Brandon Matias and Adrian Zietara were named to the all-CCAC First Team as the league announced its postseason baseball awards. Additionally, Zietara earned a conference Gold Glove.

St. Ambrose saw its season come to a close with a pair of tight losses at the CCAC Tournament played in Crown Point, Ind. The No. 5-seeded Bees fell to Trinity Christian 5-3 Thursday before getting knocked out of the postseason with a 5-4 loss to St. Francis Friday.
